3rd October incident remembered
Opposition leaders and supporters gathered on the steps of the National Cultural Centre at 10am today to mark the 10th anniversary of the 3rd October incident.
On that fateful day in 2006 opposition Members of the National Assembly from Seychelles National Party (SNP) and their supporters were assaulted by police officers whilst they protested against the amendment to the local telecommunications and broadcasting legislation.
Police charged them using batons, tear gas and rubber bullets while they had peacefully gathered to sign a petition.
The government was later forced to compensate the victims after Judge Reilly's Report found that the state used excessive force against the demonstrators.
